Our magnificent hacienda, whose construction began in 1529 under the orders of Hernán Cortés, is a true historical treasure.

The legacy of Spanish engineering, with its impressive barrel vaults and semicircular walls, transports our visitors back to the 16th century. Initially, the estate served as a monastery for the Franciscan order.

In 1558, the Franciscan missionaries mysteriously abandoned the monastery, marking the beginning of a new era for San Gabriel. The hacienda was transformed into a sugar plantation that would later become the largest and most influential sugar mill in Mexico. During the War of Independence, this historic site witnessed important events, and during the Mexican Revolution, it served as the headquarters of Emiliano Zapata.
